Being yourself is important.

Not being able to get film for the vintage SX-70 was a minor inconvenience. But now Polaroid lists my beloved Type 52 — the 4x5 B&W stuff that is a good match for my film — as “discontinued.” I have one box left and, while I could find old stock elsewhere, I feel like I should just end this relationship. To hell with messing around with the alternative Fuji options (even if the Fuji version is pretty nice). I’m moving on, burning bridges, and flying blind. I gave my last Polaroid prints away to the girls and that is that — never again — I even listed my last unopened box and 545i holder as “for sale.”

When I shot 8x10 I never used Polaroid in the field, yet I still made good exposures. And the truth is I rarely caught any mistakes from the Polaroid, at least outdoors where I often shoot handheld. In the studio — well I don’t use a studio that often so it doesn’t matter… but back in the day we used to go through cases of the stuff, 40-60 ‘roids per day.

A world without Polaroid is just bad ju-ju.
