Hey Man Nice Shot

Jessalyn

Jessalyn, near Pot Creek, New Mexico (larger)

Over the past two years of photographing models, I’ve strived to capture moments when they aren’t acting too much like models — I avoid their voguing and prettiness — in order to create the illusion of familiarity and show our connection. Now I realize that “truthfulness” in a photograph is subjective and every image is “read” differently by individual viewers, but I take it as a compliment when people comment that my photos feel “genuine.”

Of course it is difficult to achieve familiarity and make a connection without putting in the time and effort to get to know and trust the other person. That’s why I tend to shoot the same core group of model-friends over and over.

These photos of Jessalyn aren’t genuine at all. She’s faking it. She is that good as a model. As for whatever else that means or implies, it is no longer relevant. I got the shot.

Hi Frank.. I continually find the need to see what you're up to. The ultimate in web voyeurism is only a click away, a kind of candid, unrehearsed spontaneity... what you do is totally refreshing to say the least. There's a quirky feeling here that I cannot explain...
