More Headshots of Karen
November 25, 2007
I did these and they’re cute, so I’ll post them. I really don’t need to shoot any new headshots but I did this session with Karen for her portfolio — we also shot the dresses shown in an earlier post — and then we did the shot I needed afterwards (I’ll post that later). It was all sort of last minute and fudged, but for whatever reason, even when things aren’t perfect, we always get good photos together.
Karen Tanico, aka prettylushkaren
I guess I’ve shot with her the most of any of the internet models, many times over a year’s time, so I know her pretty well by now. Sometimes she’ll open up and tell me all the sordid details of what it is like to be pretty college girl — and of course it is fascinating stuff. Compile it with all the other stories I’ve heard from other models — including the strippers, druggies, and outright crazies — and I have great source material for a book, if only I could figure out how to put it all together and have the discipline to actually write it.
If you told me 18 months ago that I would be friends with a 20-year old sorority girl/bartender/Hot Topic worker/tattoo studio piercer/wannabe model-actress… well it is just too bizarre… like I never imagined the twists that would bring me here. And the truth is that it doesn’t really work that well, not only with Karen, but with any of the other young model friends. The cultural and social differences are just too vast — they might as well be from another planet sometimes…. Oh that’s right, it’s not just the age thing… it’s that they are female. Women my own age are hard enough to fathom, so why should younger ones be any easier?
Anyway, I’m learning that 20-year old girls are just passing though. It is rare when one can handle being friends — and just that — with a grown man without it getting too weird. Instead they have to learn from the all the guys their own age — the endless chain of musicians, jocks, and slackers that they seem to attract — and grow up the hard way. All I can do is stand aside, be nice, and do some cool photos. And I have to learn not to expect them to be serious friends, even though they can fool you pretty good sometimes.
Sorry, I’m actually blogging — my navel lint is blue today.
