Tilting at Windmills
June 1, 2008
Before I forget: DéModé is a great fashion photo blog. Also, the sidebar now has a synopsis of my work (340 kb pdf).
Wethersfield Road
The other day I drove out to a local windfarm with Jenn and Shannon. We got a late start and had only a few minutes of good light… we didn’t have enough time or the right wardrobe, so it was a bust. But Jenn snapped a few nice shots of Shannon riding me like horsey. I never realized how lightweight these models are — I hardly noticed she was there.

Afterwards I had a drink and watched a horrible horror movie with Shannon. Kids these days… they are so calm through the scariest scenes. I was jumping out of my seat — and she just sat there unflinching.
Last night Martha and I watched Surfwise, a documentary on the famous Paskowitz surfing family. I rather like the Christianity Today review that I just found when I Googled for the movie link.
Otherwise, life has been about work, commercially and around the house. I’ve been thinking that I should start doing more diverse and colorful photos, since I seem to have the 4x5 B&W photos of women down pretty tight. When I look at the color stuff I’ve done lately, there are a lot of beautiful headshots — but those are easy because the models are gorgeous… and I have a few good spontaneous “moments” — but not hardly enough. My Terry Richardson/Richard Kern-ish side is there, it just needs to come out more.
What is making me think that I need to diversify a little is that an ad agency called me up, “We love your work… been reading your blog, it’s great, etc…” so I send over my portfolio only to find out that they want a tog for a menswear campaign! Funny as hell… but, “Dude… I haven’t photographed a sausage in almost two years.” It’s probably time I start.
Now I’m in my L.L. Bean/Land’s End disguise, about to go watch Olivia hop around as a bunny in a play at the Methodist Church. Hopefully the Lord won’t strike this agnostic sinboy down when I enter his/her sanctuary… cute pictures on the wholesome blog soon enough (ask me for the link).

Wind farm. It is a funny term like solar factory. I'm all for it, though.
