creek near Rusland

Olivia, Martha, Peg exploring a creek near Rusland, U.K.

fence

It feels like I’m trapped on a fricking PBS series.

skirting

Milt and Peg skirting by. That is Milt’s first cane.

stripper

Obviously I’ve been photographing way too many exhibitionists.

bumper

Did I mention that I am driving around with my wife and mother-in-law in the backseat?

If driving a Kia mini-van could ever be considered exciting, doing it on the wrong side of a very narrow and curvy road system will make it so. I’ve wacked the side mirrors about half a dozen times in two days. If we had rented a sportscar, we’d be dead. As it stands, we are so loosing out security deposit.

cycle

Now that’s a bitching prayer cushion.

It’s rather sad to see the glory of England befuddled by all these pacifist vegetarians ambling about The Lakelands. When you consider the history of the British Empire, it doesn’t jive to see everything so cutsified and proper. I think it needs an edge. Everything seems so utterly old lady-like. Beatrix Potter rules with an iron fist, sapping men of their essence.

Maybe I am just suffering testosterone overload. Traveling with our three-year old and Martha’s parents hardly makes for an intimate, romantic idle. Instead it is somewhat like being an over-extended parent to the elders as well as to our youngster. I’ve given up on the pub runs and fell hiking though — I just want to make a couple photos without something cute or quaint in the frame!

Another thing or two: With the exception of Kiera Knightly, all these British women have marvelous breasts. I haven’t seen a sagger or flat-chested bird yet. And everyone’s skin is amazing. Now some of the men are ghastly pale, like dead weasels, but it is most becoming on the ladies. Even my red-ruddy complexion is softening. I can’t find any zits. As long as my dental hygiene doesn’t go the way of the British I’ll be happy.

Other than the next rasher of local bacon I am craving, the food can be vile. As our Innkeep told us, “Eat Italian.”

Olivia loves it. It is a memorable time with her grands, and that is what’s important.
