Young at Heart

Milt

Milton, my father-in-law

So Martha and I went to see Young at Heart, the movie about an elderly chorus that signs modern music. The highlight is their take on Sonic Youth’s song, Schizophrenia. It’s great.

I don’t have many photos of seasoned citizens but I found this one from my first year of photography. Normal people will probably find this photo tasteless. However, if you catch yourself cracking a smile then it means you’re “mine”.

Young at Heart is set in Northampton, Massachusetts, which makes it all the better because for whatever reason I can not escape the influence of that town — too many friends, and most importantly, my daughter (Hampshire College, class of 2006) have burnt a path through there. (Hampshire College is an institution created by college professors as an idyllic place to be… a pampered college professor.)

It’s worth noting that Liz managed to graduate from Hampshire in only four years, which is some kind of record.

I didn't know normal people read this blog. I always wanted those seasoned citizens who sing to do a older Butthole Surfers or Flaming Lips song.

I found your site via Kottke and I love the portraits. I also happen to live in Northampton! Hampshire is an excellent school. Prescott if I'm not mistaken? :) And yes, 4 years is a record. The average seems to be 5 to escape that particular slice of paradise. Although, I'm not sure why you'd ever want to leave.
